In commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, San Diego State University has established the American Revolution and Constitution History (ARCH) Project, which aims to make the nation’s founding central to the lives of students at SDSU and to the people of San Diego. The ARCH Project brings students, faculty, and community members together to explore the historical roots of the American Republic and its founding documents. This is done through student-driven research projects, public presentations, and curated exhibits that examine key moments, figures, and ideas from the Revolutionary era.https://history.sdsu.edu/arch
In support of this laudable goal, the San Diego Civil War Round Table is proud to announce that its membership has raised $2,000 so as to endow two Fellowships with the stated purpose of researching the connection between the American Revolution and the Civil War. Both North and South grounded their opposing arguments in the acts and words of the Founders, making this an important field of study. The selected fellows will examine different aspects of that undeniable association.
The Round Table is particularly gratified by this collaboration with SDSU as one of our long-time members, the late William Hanchett, was a noted scholar at the university. In his day, Professor Hanchett was the acknowledged authority on Lincoln’s assassination.
